A report titled, Psychiatric Drugs and Violence has been released by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights Australian subsidiary (CCHR). The report was written as Australians are not adequately warned that psychiatric drugs can cause homicidal ideation, aggression and suicide. In determining policy to address problems of school, community and domestic violence, the role of prescribed psychotropic (mind altering) drugs must be taken into account.

With public distrust of psychiatry mounting—and government agency warnings about psychiatric drugs at an all-time high—a new exhibit in Sydney shows that it could get much worse. Denouncing the fact that internationally more than 100,000 patients die each year in psychiatric institutions and an estimated 15,000 prescriptions of antidepressants are written for children under 10 in Australia, the National Office for Australia and New Zealand of the international organisation, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) launched a “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death” exhibition on Monday (18/09/2006)at Darling Harbour.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) (In Australia Citizens Committee on Human Rights Inc)is a non-profit, public benefit organization dedicated to investigating and exposing psychiatric violations of human rights. It also ensures that criminal acts within the psychiatric industry are reported to the proper authorities and acted upon. CCHR was founded in 1969 by the Church of Scientology and the internationally acclaimed author, Dr. Thomas Szasz, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Syracuse.
